WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a spiritual art and practice founded in Japan by Mikao Usui in early 20th century. By placing hands over the body to share the unseen life-force energy that flows through everyone and everything, we use Reiki to balance, reduce stress, and self heal.

A Beginner's Guide to Reiki Healing

What to Expect in Your Reiki Session

Before the Session

1. Set Your Intention: Reflect on what you hope to achieve or heal through Reiki. Setting a clear intention can help guide the session.

2. Choose Comfortable Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothes to help you relax during the session.

3. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before your session to help your body prepare for the energy work.

During the Session

In-Person Session:

1. Arrival: Arrive a few minutes early to settle in and fill out any necessary paperwork.

2. Initial Consultation: The practitioner may ask you about your health, emotional state, and any specific issues you want to address.

3. Positioning: You will lie down on a treatment table, fully clothed. The practitioner may use a light touch or place their hands slightly above your body.

4. Relaxation: Close your eyes and take deep breaths. The practitioner will begin the session, moving their hands through a series of positions over your body.

5. Sensation: You might feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of relaxation. Some people experience emotional release or visions.

**Online Session**

**Setup** Choose a quiet, comfortable space where you can lie down undisturbed. Ensure your device is set up for a video call, and test your internet connection beforehand.

**Initial Consultation** The practitioner will discuss your needs and explain the process over the video call.

**Relaxation** Lie down and follow the practitioner’s guidance. They will perform the energy work remotely, using visualisation and intention.

**Sensation** Similar to in-person sessions, you may feel warmth, tingling, or emotional release.

After the Session

1. Hydrate: Drink water to help flush out any toxins and integrate the energy work.

2. Rest: Take it easy for the rest of the day. Your body and mind may need time to process the session.

3. Reflect: Journal or meditate on any sensations, thoughts, or emotions that arose during the session.

4. Follow-up: If recommended, schedule additional sessions to continue your healing journey.

Tips for a Successful Reiki Session

Keep an Open Mind~ Reiki works best when you are open to the experience, even if you don’t fully understand it.

Communicate~ Let your practitioner know if you feel uncomfortable or have any questions during the session.

Consistency~ Regular sessions can help maintain and deepen the healing effects.

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive healing practice that can provide numerous benefits. Whether you choose an in-person or online session, approaching it with an open heart and mind will help you get the most out of the experience. Remember to follow your practitioner’s guidance and take care of yourself before and after the session.

In Japanese, rei means “spirit” or “soul” and ki means “the energy of the universe”. The word can be translated as “universal energy” and also describes a practice with the awareness of energy. Reiki is more than a complimentary therapy for our body, mind, and soul. It can also take us on a journey to inner peace and a more meaningful life.
